La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

Glimpses of a Kitchen - Follow Up

Revealing just a little more of our almost one year old kitchen. You can find the first preview here

The cooker has moved with us from Belgium, where we were going to install it. But then decided against that plan, as moving house and country was on the cards again.
The cooker hood was a stainless steel contraption that we reused from the 'old' kitchen here. We boxed it in and painted it, to fit better with the style of cooker and kitchen as a whole.

The kitchen island

The worktops are Douglas fir from the local sawmill, treated with white Danish oil, suitable for kitchen surfaces. I would hate it if it turned into a nasty yellowy orange hue.

The place where I spend most of my time. The kitchen table, fabricated from a slab of macrocarpa  from same sawmill, but bought way back when we lived here first time round.

The coffee station. Ahem  Don't you just hate it when your interior is being photobombed by  electrical cables and dry dog kibble.

Where the kitchen used to be, behind door included.

Which is now the pantry. Yes, I tidied up for the 'photo shoot'.

Make sure to visit again for the great reveal.
